A few weeks ago Jeremy Zawodny made a post about the death of the $100 hamburger. With gas crossing $4/gal, and demand actually decreasing, it seems to be that the new $100 hamburger is going to be any time you take a drive in a car to grab lunch somewhere else. Say you drive 50 miles there, 50 miles back..your sports car gets 10 miles to the gallon…with lunch…that’s awfully close to a $100 trip.

My $100 hamburger is already any day I take the boat out and get a burger at Maynards. Oh well. You gotta pay to play.

I’ve complained about Ticketmaster before. This blew my mind.

I’m trying to wrap up a bunch of Fighters features before going to Cancun, and I decided that it might be a good idea to pass up my season tickets for tomorrow night’s NHL playoff game 2 of the Wild vs Colorado. I went on the Wild/Ticketmaster exchange and listed the tickets for sale. Seems that the tickets are in high demand, so I bumped the asking price up to $170/each from the $97/ea face value. Now when you sell tickets on the “Ticketmaster Exchange” you only get credit for 90% of the price you posted them at. I always accepted this 10% haircut because I figured what the hell they are doing all the dirty work.

Out of curiosity I started looking through the exchange to see what tickets at my level were selling at. The first amazing thing is that tickets as low as mine (row 5, lower level) are selling for ~$250. The second, and most amazing thing is that Ticketmaster is selling my tickets at $195.50 + fees! Holy shit.

Not only are these pricks taking a 10% cut from MY asking price, but they’re jacking it up an additional 15% without telling you the seller, or the buyer. If my college dropout math is correct, thats a 21% commission for brokering a ticket sale. Wow.

It’s nice to be Ticketmaster I guess.

My realtor sent me some listings to glance over today. As usual, they were all bank-owned (foreclosed) properties. It’s pretty sad when there are 9 half-a-million dollar bank-owned properties within a few blocks of each other. No wonder the RE and the CDO-paper-holding-stock market are hurting.

But this is kinda funny:

Nice suburbia sprawl, with 6 of the 9 bank-owned properties.

ZoomLe but de jeu poker en ligne. in a little:

Oh look at all the cookie cutter homes.

Zoom in a little more:

Yes, those cookie cutter suburbia homes essentially used to be a corn field. Couldn’t have been too long ago either as those tiles are higher resolution than the other ones, but clearly a few years older.

Amusing to me anyway.

Wow. That was rough. A week ago Friday my friend Jon looked at me and said “See you in a week buddy.” While we were about to spend the next week together, we both knew it was going to be rough. Saturday’s UFC 79 was phenomenal, and a good pay day to boot. Matt Hughes lost me as a fan not too long ago, so seeing GSP defeat him was just fine with me. Honestly I’ve always thought GSP was a great fighter, but being a Hughes fan I had to dislike him on principle. I can tell you I proudly sported my GSP shirt on Saturday. Liddell vs Silva was epic. I knew they’d both stand up and fight, but I never expected them to go 3 full rounds of trading blows. I feel like Chuck controlled the fight the whole time, and won it decidedly.

New Years is always a big build-up and never lives up to expectations. This year that was NOT the case. As of Monday morning we didn’t have a definitive plan and I was stuck with a dead iPhone which meant I was missing calls back about options. A local club VIP host left us boned without a table, and I didn’t think we’d have anywhere to go. Some industry friends came through clutch by mid-afternoon and we were all set at another (better) club. Had a few friends over for dinner and then loaded up the limo to head downtown. I don’t know if I’ve ever had as much fun in my life. Tommy Lee spun for a couple hours and was a lot better than I would have expected. Needless to say a lot of Veuve and Ketel was consumed.

No more than 8 hours after toasting to 2008, my friend Jon and I were on a plane to Vegas. A few weeks ago when a group of Downtown service-industry friends asked me to join them for Make Believe its New Years in Vegas Jan 1-3, it seemed like a good idea. A few hours after falling asleep on NYE it didn’t seem so hot. Needless to say we made it. Tuesday night at Pure was ridiculous, followed up by an equally if-not-more ridiculous night at LAX on Wednesday. DJ Vice was spinning both nights, and probably made our nights. Sumbitch can spin. Lil Jon was in the house at LAX and joined Vice in the DJ booth for a while, he even gave a shout out to the Minneapolis crew having recognized us from Pure the night before. Vegas 1 earlier in December and Vegas Deuce are tied for the best Vegas trips ever. We had a huge (~20) crew this time and they were honestly ALL great people. I feel like I made some great friends, and got to spend some time with some friends I don’t get to spend enough time with. I still can’t get over how ridiculously awesome the trip was. No bullshit, this is Paris blowing kisses to our table at LAX.

Highlight of all that? Bowling a frickin’ 168 last night. I probably bowl once every 6 months. Hell yes, I see a new career coming on.

P.S. If you start your day by waking up and having a White Russian, you WILL have a good day.

While cranking out some work tonight I thought I’d get around to listening to the interview with my friend Dick Masterson. I hoppped over to his site to listen to the interview. The player skipped so much it was painful. No big deal, I’ll just grab the MP3 url and download the MP3 and listen locally, that way I can skip commercials too. That’s when I saw why it was so slow. Are you guys fucking kidding? 16K/s? The bottom 2 downloads are from machines on god knows how much bandwidth. 3rd from the bottom is also on an obscene pipe. Top is my home cable-modem. What the christ Daron? This is NOT that hard.

I had no idea that Joe Francis was still in jail. I remember when the Florida thing was going down, and how he refused to go to jail, but I somehow missed the part where they locked him up in Reno on tax evasion. You might not agree with Joe’s morals or method of making money, but you have to respect him as an entrepreneur and marketer. He found a niche and slaughtered it. Sometimes I try to look at people for what they’ve been able to do. I don’t like Kanye much anymore, but he’s been able to market the hell out of himself and keep himself in the news by being so cocky. I actually like Paris Hilton, I don’t see how she’s ever done anything “wrong” other than be famous and use it to her advantage at every turn. The girl actually makes money by literally being herself, respect. Anyway I think its time for Joe Francis to cut and run. Calvin seems to think Antigua is pretty nice. Get bail, gas up the jet, and bounce dude. Maybe they’ll invite me down and I can show Calvin how to drive that Quattroporte.
