If You Have a Humidor, Buy These Humidity Beads

I’ve had a humidor since I can remember. I don’t smoke cigarettes, but I enjoy a cigar every once in a while. Like wine, I always buy one to smoke and at least one more to save. As a result over the years I’ve built up a bit of a collection of cigars. The only problem is my humidor has never done a good job of maintaining the 65% RH necessary to keep cigars at their prime. A humidor isn’t something you can constantly open and check on, and I have forgotten for months at a time to remember to check the humidifier. Recently I had been checking consistently and noticed that no matter what I couldn’t bring the humidity up. I’m sure it doesn’t help that it is so dry in the winter here.

Anyway blah blah blah. Out of the blue a friend of mine mentions these humidity beads to me. Wow. From the first day I put the tube in my humidor the RH has been steadily crawling up to 70% (going to let them sit at 70% for a couple months to re-humidify them). I’ve had to re-spray the tube with distilled water a few times because the humidor and the cigars are soaking up so much moisture but thats it! These things are the shit. If you have a humidor, and you don’t have humidity beads from Heartfelt: GET SOME.

Best and Worst Movies This Week - Rambo and Cloverfield

I went to see Cloverfield earlier this week. 15 minutes into the movie, we had to walk out with nausea and headaches. If you’re the type of person who gets nauseous from movies with fast-cutting scenes and bad camera work, for the love of god don’t go see Cloverfield. What the fuck were they thinking?

Fortunately, this afternoon a couple buddies and I went to see Rambo. Hell yes this movie is good. It’s not some epic movie that will go down in history as one of the greatest movies ever. But it is packed with action, the story is less cheesy than it could be, and it has Stallone in it. What more could you ask for? One warning though, if you get offended by graphic scenes don’t go see it. It is extremely, extremely graphic.

Props Week: Friday - Chris Winfield/10e20

To be honest I wasn’t sure who I was going to give props to today. As I was firing off some emails and IMs it occurred to me. Chris Winfield has been one of the most gracious, coolest people I’ve met in the industry since the first time I met him. I think we first met at SES San Jose this summer, and we’ve always grabbed a drink at every conference. Chris (and his lady) are always super nice. Maybe more importantly though, I can always fire off an email to Chris if I need a quick favor and he ALWAYS helps out. His company is without question where I would turn for social media marketing, in other words, getting on digg. I think Chris and 10e20 (coolest freaking company name ever too) have been making waves, and I expect they’ll continue. Good people.

ADD sidenote: It never ceases to amaze me how connected we are. Within a few seconds of receiving a message from one person, I can reach out and touch 10 other people in all different parts of the US/world with different mediums (IM, email, phone). It’s pretty badass when you think back to even 10 years ago when we weren’t all connected this seamlessly.

Props Week: Wednesday - SEOBlackHat

I’ve always liked Quadszilla over at SEO Black Hat, and some of his most recent posts are really good. This particular post is a great method for building a new habit. I use the exact same technique for keeping track of my cardio workouts. I’m really consistent with lifting, but cardio is harder to stick with. Having a calendar in your face with big red X’s is hard to argue with. I’m not a member of the private SEO forum but I have heard really good things if you’re into the forum thing.

Props Week: Tuesday - Mark Cuban

I’ve always been a big fan of Cuban. His latest string of posts have been really exceptional though. Props to Mark for working his ass off and achieving so much coming from nothing.
