We have a major problem here in Myrtle Beach, SC with race over anything and everything they can complain about. For example, we have two bike weeks, a “harley” bike week and a “atlantic bike week.” Locals simply refer to it as “white” and “black” bike week. During the “white” bike week, most of the time the city is in decent shape as it’s a older and more wealthy crowd.
During the “Atlantic” bike week though – it’s younger crowds that are primarily African American and they come through and destroy and town, kill people (1 college student this past event), drive recklessly, etc. The cops are so scared of the people this week that they wear riot gear 24/7 so they don’t get shot. But the NAACP is trying to say the “white folk” are causing all of the problems.
Long story short – if someone can try and cause problems and stir up drama, more than likely they are going to do it – Especially when it comes to race.
It is crazy seeing the hotels down there change the weekend between events. The differences in bikes is crazy. Fun week. It has always been “black” bike week and “white” bike week though. And sometimes it would be implied which week was “bike week” depending on who you were talking with.
