Everything is "coming soon" with WMR. Nothing ever appears. I guess Daron is too busy making promises to make sure anything actually gets delivered.

It's a love/hate thing with Webmaster Radio for me. From early on, it's been unprofessional and just gets worse. Being unprofessional gets you fewer listeners, fewer sponsors, fewer shows and the cycle just goes down and down. I know they are busy out at trade shows promoting themselves but why spend time promoting something that is poorly run? And now they run an ad wondering why people are ignoring them and run by?

I've just about given up on trying to find a live show because it's rare. They don't care to give a hint if a show is live, going to be live or is not going to be live for months.

Daron just says that Akamai doesn't support mp3 but it is on their website as a delivery option. Maybe that is just old stuff. Any webmaster oriented site should never ever try to pass something over to just Windows Media player. Bad bad.

Even a show that tries to be respectable with Danny Sullivan like the Daily Search Cast gets mistreated. No mention of why it's off or if it's coming back. The last show said someone else was filling in but that hasn't happened. Another week and I'll assume it's dead and give up. Danny, Barry, Shoemoney, Domain Monte, people that care about their reputation and do regular shows should just host their own podcast on their own popular blogs and websites. They don't need Webmaster Radio for it. I already grab the files off from their sites anyway because of the poor .fm site. I'd say the chat was great for a while, but it's spammed a lot when it actually works these days.

The website is terrible for a media company in the website business. Why does one have to look through a bunch of inactive shows to find current ones? Why have a list of shows with the most inactive ones at the top? No order, not even alphabetical. I was told at a trade show (almost a year ago) a new website was coming.

I email in info about broken links and nothing happens. A couple times, I get wise crack remarks back like it's my problem, not theirs. Yeah, I'd fix the business if I could but it's not mine. People try to be helpful with these complaints to point to someone in the right direction and they get pissed on. Any business will surely fail being run that way. Maybe it's not a business and just an ego thing. A play toy that no one cares about much any more other than writing off party travel expenses.

Your blog has the same flaw as Shoemie's. If a comment is held for manual approval, no message shows to tell the user that it happened.

I just added a comment and it even added the comment ID to the URL (#comment-5646), but there is no comment visible. It got caught in a filter. Good that I can guess very well, but not everybody is able to do that. Something for you to fix (and please approve comment # 5646 thanks).

Cheers!

I am not sure, if you always use such strong words or if you are really that mad at WMR. In the latter case does it mean that you do care about them.

I love them to death, but I must agree that some things are not working the way they should for reasons that are unknown and not understandable to me.

I had/have my problems with their podcast feeds. I sent last year and this year also numerous emails to Brandy with information about their broken RSS feeds. I also sent suggestions for how to solve some of the problems. Some feeds I reported months ago are broken to this day.

I am not surprised that Shawn Collins decided to provide a feed of his own. The feed for his show at WMR is still broken (after over 3 months). The speed the shows become available in the feeds varies, although it got better. I wonder why this is not being automated, if you consider that they don't cut out things from the live recording.

I haven't checked the chat/streaming client in 6 months. The last version I tested was very unstable and impossible to run in the background without crashing. I hope that it got better, but I don't want to check to find out that it is still the same old piece of junk.

The problem with the canceled or irregular schedule of some shows is as Greg already said, mostly because the hosts are not getting paid and thus give other clients who do pay a higher priority. I would be willing to pay a monthly subscription fee to access the content, if advertising does not pay the bills and the hosts. In this case would I expect nothing, but a flawless service and support and glitches and issues like the reported ones would not be an option.

If the hosts are being paid, they will take it much more serious and have no excuse to give another client a higher priority. At the same time will there also be some people out there who are willing to do the job for free, just for the exposure. You can't have only one of the two types, but should have a balanced mixed of paid hosts and volunteers.

Also hire somebody who is able to take care of the technical infrastructure. I would not be surprised a bit, if Daron is doing that himself, because he probably likes to do it. The problem is that he has to do so much different things that some of it is simply not or only very slowly done. That would explain some of the issues.

There is a lot of room for improvement and the patience a lot of friends and fans have might run out one day. So fix stuff better sooner than later.

Weren't you banned from WebmasterRadio?

If you check our Windows Media links, you'll still see Akamai. That's never changed.

Akamai does not support mp3 streams. That's where MediaCast comes in so that we can accomodate as many different player types as possible.
That's just called being end user friendly.

Craig, if your wife was as hot as mine...you'd spend your days with her too...however, may your keyboard keep you warm at night.

To be perfectly honest I would be put off working with Greg Boser because his show is barely on etc. It would make me think that he does not treat his paying clients with enough respect. I may be wrong, I hope I am, but it is just the impression I get because the entire thing is such a fuck up.

I guess that logic would make sense if we were paid to do WMR shows and then blew them off. But we aren't paid. The reason the show is inconsistent is because my first priority is to my paying clients. They don't ever get blown off. If I need to be in a meeting that happens to be scheduled during a show, I blow off the show.

Could not agree more. I listen to it more than I watch TV and the frustration I feel towards it is unbelievable. From what I understand, and potentially it is more what I am supposed to believe, they have 3 full-time staff at least - WTF do they do all day after Danny Sullivan has been on?

It seems to me as though Bruce Clay and some other generous people are basically bank rolling it, I doubt anyone will get an ROI off of advertising on it. I also feel they will get away with making their own pricing model because it is far from a commoditized channel.

Also it seems to me as though they just make shows when they like. That is not to say the presenters are to blame considering they do not get paid. And again, it is not like we pay for it. But, if you were expecting to watch the News at 10, is it acceptable for them to only show it some nights of the week just because you dont pay? At the end of the day, it is a shambles. To be perfectly honest I would be put off working with Greg Boser because his show is barely on etc. It would make me think that he does not treat his paying clients with enough respect. I may be wrong, I hope I am, but it is just the impression I get because the entire thing is such a fuck up.

Also, how do you know when to visit the chatroom? Each show, apart from the daily search cast, on average probably has around a 50% chance of being on. So you could go there log-in etc and guess what. Daron is away fuckin brandy and the presenter is away earning $500 an hour working for a client or spamming search engines.

I personally feel the level of professionalism is poor. From an outside perspective, when someone does not do the show it looks bad on them and the station. Nothing pisses me off more in the B2B world than missing deadlines. Not only are they missing deadlines and missing shows altogether, they really are fucking about with the listners - although, it is true they are not going to go elsewhere for a long time. I bet you there is other, far more competent, people who do not want to compete with Darron because they know him.

I also do not understand why each show must meet be complete by a certain time. Why? WTF must that happen. The fact is the guy who runs the station is a fukin pussy who does nothing but sit on the fence and kiss ass. I suppose he has to when he is basically running a charity disguised as a business.
